Many different colors and sizes can prove to be very effective at different times depending on different stages of the natural spawning cycles of the fish. Different colors and sizes can also present themselves more effective depending on water clarity and conditions. Hard beads can be fished in many different ways. The most common would be ran on the leader with the bead sitting right above the hook or pinned above the hook an inch or two with bead pegs. You can fish either of these setups under a float or bottom bouncing (drift style) with a weight.
